US Air Force Awards $750,000 Contract to Wombat Security Technologies to Provide Innovative Micro-Game Platform for Cyber Security Awareness and Training

PITTSBURGH, PA--(Marketwire - October 8, 2010) -  Today, Wombat Security Technologies announced that it has been awarded a $750,000 SBIR Phase II contract by the US Air Force to provide the Federal Government with an innovative micro-game platform for cyber security training and awareness.

With both private sector and government organizations consistently citing end-users as their biggest source of vulnerability, effective cyber security training and awareness is rapidly emerging as a top priority. This recognition was just reiterated last Friday in President Obama's address to the nation marking the beginning of Cyber Security Awareness Month and emphasizing the importance of digital literacy and cyber security awareness among everyday users.

Effective cyber security awareness and training requires moving away from traditional programs and solutions that have too often relied on rather mundane and ineffective materials. Over the past few years, Wombat Security has established itself as an innovative leader in cyber security education with its highly effective suite of anti-phishing training games. In contrast to traditional approaches, Wombat builds on proven learning science and gaming principles to develop highly compelling and effective micro-games for cyber security training and awareness. These games focus on teaching practical and effective cyber security tips and strategies in a highly engaging format and can be played in less than ten minutes.

"This new contract with the US Air Force further validates the effectiveness of Wombat's unique approach to cyber security awareness and training," says Dr. Norman Sadeh, Co-Founder and CEO of Wombat Security Technologies. "The platform for cyber security awareness and training we will deliver to the US Air Force is designed to appeal to both public and private sector organizations. It will enable us to offer our customers an ever wider range of compelling cyber security training and awareness content without requiring them to incur any additional deployment costs. In doing so, the platform will help both government and private sector organizations keep up with the rapidly growing number of cyber security threats that take advantage of end-user vulnerabilities."

Under this new contract, Wombat Security Technologies will also deliver to the Department of Defense its recently released Anti-Phishing Phyllis game. The game, which teaches users how to identify traps in phishing emails, is SCORM and 508 compliant and comes with extensive tracking and reporting functionality.

"Today, Wombat Security Technologies offers the most comprehensive and effective suite of anti-phishing training solutions. With this platform, Wombat is moving beyond phishing and expects to firmly establish itself as the global leader in cyber security training and awareness," stated Dr. Jason Hong, Co-Founder and CTO of Wombat.
