WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - Jun 6, 2012) - The US-China Business Council (USCBC) today announced the election of Robert A. McDonald, chairman, president, and CEO of The Procter & Gamble Company as USCBC chair as well as the election of other officers and board directors.
"I am pleased to be able to lead the United States' foremost business organization representing our commercial interests with China," McDonald said. "Next year is USCBC's 40th anniversary and the role it plays in expanding the market and reducing barriers for US companies has never been more important."
"The commercial relationship with China presents great opportunities and great challenges for American companies," McDonald continued. "It is a relationship that we need to get right, and I look forward to contributing toward that goal as chair of USCBC."
McDonald oversees a global company with annual revenues of about $83 billion in 2011. Procter & Gamble has operations in about 80 countries, and sells its brands in more than 180 countries around the world. McDonald joined Procter & Gamble (P&G) in 1980 and has extensive experience in the company's Asia businesses, including China. He spent most of the 1990s leading P&G's businesses in the Philippines, Japan and Korea, including responsibility for P&G's Hair Care business in Asia and the P&G Beauty business in Japan.
Procter & Gamble is the largest consumer products company in China, with annual sales of about $6 billion. Procter & Gamble entered the mainland China market in 1988 by establishing its first joint venture -- P&G (Guangzhou) Ltd. Headquartered in Guangzhou, P&G China currently has operations in Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Tianjin, Dongguan and Nanping, and a technical center in Beijing. As P&G's second largest market globally, P&G China along with operations in other parts of the world support 20 percent of P&G's US jobs.
