U.S. Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema to Be Awarded University of Advancing Technology Honorary Doctorate and Deliver UAT Commencement Speech

TEMPE, AZ--(Marketwired - May 1, 2014) - University of Advancing Technology (UAT) is privileged to announce that U.S. Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema will receive this year's Honorary Doctorate, to be awarded at the UAT commencement ceremony May 2, 2014, at the Mesa Arts Center. U.S. Congresswoman Sinema will be delivering the commencement speech during the ceremony, which is open to the public.

Sinema was born and raised in Arizona. She is dedicated to serving the community and committed to reinforcing the values that make America strong -- hard work, access to public education, fairness and opportunity.

She brings a passion and knowledge to the causes she advocates for, such as securing that our veterans and military families get the benefits and resources they've earned, standing up for Arizona families and creating good jobs and helping businesses in Arizona.

Much of Sinema's work aligns with UAT's Institutional Values -- in particular, a belief in the commitment, support and lifelong growth that come from a learning community built around family principles. Prior to working at the Legislature, Sinema created the first Family Resource Center in Sunnyslope. She worked to build community organization, adult and community education, and advocacy for disadvantaged families.
