U.S. Department of Commerce Division Names Point&Ship Minority Technology Firm of the Year

White House Reception Honors Software-as-a-Service Firm, Other National Winners

WALNUT CREEK, CA--(Marketwire - September 3, 2009) - The Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA), part of the U.S. Department of Commerce, named Pointandship Software, Inc. (Point&Ship) Minority Technology Firm of the Year for its recent achievements. Point&Ship, the leading provider of full-service Shipping Expense Management Software™ (SEMS™) and a certified minority business enterprise, along with other National Excellence in Minority Business Award recipients, took part in a recent White House reception to commemorate their successes.

Point&Ship also was named 2009 MBDA Regional Minority Technology Firm of the Year, representing the eight-state Western region. The Walnut Creek, Calif.-based company was nominated for both awards by the Northern California Minority Supplier Development Council. Point&Ship was recognized, in part, for its SEMS that brings together client shipping needs into a Software-as-a-Service multicarrier shipping option. During the White House reception, Vice President Joe Biden addressed the winners and acknowledged the importance of minority-owned enterprises to the recovery of the nation's economy.

"The global focus on minority businesses is on the rise, and we're proud to be a part of this positive momentum," said Ted C. Mesa, president and CEO of Point&Ship. "The MBDA's recognition of Point&Ship, both at the regional and national levels, is a tremendous honor and a testament to the success of our widely adopted shipping expense management software. We continue to support other minority enterprises through our own business initiatives."

The MBDA at the U.S. Department of Commerce is the only federal agency dedicated to fostering the establishment and growth of minority-owned firms in America. The National Excellence in Minority Business Award winners were honored at the MBDA's annual gala in Washington, D.C.

"At MBDA, we are creating the foundation for a new generation of $100 million minority-owned businesses," said MBDA's National Director David Hinson. "The minority firms recognized by these awards represent those companies well on their way to achieving this goal. Minority firms have a substantial impact on communities throughout the country with the number of people they employ and the revenues they generate. The minority business community plays a critical role in the recovery and reinvestment of our national economy."
