U.S. Department of Energy to Recognize 3Degrees With Green Power Leadership Award for Fourth Straight Year

Award, New Website Reinforce 3Degrees' Position as One of the Nation's Leading Environmental Commodities Sales, Trading and Advisory Firms

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - October 20, 2010) - Tonight the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) will recognize 3Degrees for its exceptional achievements over the past year in advancing the development and use of renewable energy through market-based green power programs.

The DOE's Non-Utility Green Power Supplier of the Year Award will be presented to 3Degrees during the Green Power Leadership Awards ceremony, an event held in conjunction with the Renewable Energy Markets Conference 2010 in Portland, Oregon.

This is the fourth straight year that 3Degrees has been recognized with a DOE Green Power Leadership Award. In 2009, 3Degrees secured the DOE's Non-Utility Green Power Supplier of the Year Award, in 2008 its Large Commercial Green Power Supplier of the Year and in 2007 its Renewable Energy Marketer of the Year.

"3Degrees seeks to mitigate the impact of climate change by accelerating the development of a low-carbon, renewable energy economy," said Dan Kalafatas, President of 3Degrees. "This award is a testament to our team's success in realizing this mission by increasing demand for renewable energy and carbon offsets, channeling capital to renewable energy and carbon reduction projects and improving the efficiency of environmental markets."

New Website Launched

The award comes on the same day 3Degrees officially unveiled a new website at www.3degreesinc.com. The new website provides detailed information on how 3Degrees helps its partners utilize Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), verified carbon offsets and environmental markets to build value for their customers, employees, investors and other stakeholders.

The new website describes how:

  • 3Degrees supports utilities' and Load-Serving Entities' (LSEs) efforts to manage renewable energy and carbon emission compliance risk and realize profitable environmental market opportunities.
  • Utilities and LSEs can utilize 3Degrees comprehensive Community Connect methodology and team of voluntary utility program specialists to launch and expand voluntary green power and carbon balancing programs that strengthen stakeholder relationships.
  • Renewable energy and carbon reduction project developers and owners can partner with 3Degrees to bring their Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) and carbon offsets to market, creating new long-term project revenue streams.
  • Businesses, government agencies and nonprofits can use environmental commodities, such as RECs and verified carbon offsets, and 3Degrees' associated services to mitigate the environmental impact of their operations and comply with government climate and renewable energy regulations.
  • LEED® green building professionals can green the electricity and balance out the greenhouse gas emissions associated with green building projects and earn points through the LEED Green Power Credit.

In addition, businesses, government agencies, nonprofits and green building professional can easily use the website's Get a Quote function to quickly secure information on the costs related to purchasing RECs and verified carbon offsets for their organizations or LEED green building projects.

"Today, all organizations -- small and large, public and private -- need to consider the environmental impact of their operations if they hope to build value for their customers, employees and other stakeholders," said Steve McDougal. "3Degrees' new website strengthens the firm's position as the partner these organizations turn to as they seek to comply with government renewable energy and climate regulations and execute their sustainability strategies."

ABOUT THE AWARD
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) co-sponsors the Green Power Leadership Awards with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Center for Resource Solutions (CRS). Each organization recognized has helped advance the development of the Nation's green power markets through the creation of successful green power programs. The goal of green power programs is to provide market-based choices for electricity consumers to purchase power from environmentally preferred sources.

For the 2010 Green Power Leadership Awards, three separate panels of judges reviewed over 100 nominations. Nominees in DOE's supplier category were evaluated based upon the resources and technologies utilized, total annual renewable energy sales, number of customers served, market impact, amount of green power supplied, and overall value provided to participants.
