U.S. Flag of Honor Tributes Fallen Bushnell Police Officer

The United States Flag of Honor Returns to Florida to Pay Tribute to Veteran Officer

MIAMI, FL--(Marketwire - August 9, 2008) - The United States Flag of Honor will arrive in Bushnell, Florida on Monday, August 11th to honor Fallen Officer Sandra Joyce Bullock, who was killed last week in a traffic accident. Investigator Bullock was a veteran police officer with 15 years of service to the Bushnell Police Department. "Honoring Sandra is the right thing to do. Heroes should be remembered. Sandra is a superhero and will never be forgotten," said Chris Heisler, President and CEO of The Honor Network.

The flag will be displayed next to the casket during funeral services for Bullock at the First Baptist Church of Bushnell. This is the second time that the flag will arrive with full honors at Tampa International Airport in the past year. The flag will arrive on an American Airlines flight early Monday morning.

The United States Flag of Honor travels around the country to memorialize men and women in the armed forces, law enforcement and firefighting who have died in the line of duty. In saluting thousands of fallen heroes, the flag has been to over a dozen states and the District of Columbia, as well as to U.S. combat zones in Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait and Qatar.

The United States Flag of Honor was flying over the Texas Capitol during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Shortly afterward, Texas Gov. Rick Perry sent that American flag and a Texas state flag to New York City. What later became known as the United States Flag of Honor was presented to then-New York Gov. George Pataki at New York Police Department headquarters in recognition of police officers and firefighters who lost their lives in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. The flag then was flown over Ground Zero at the World Trade Center site.

Upcoming events for the flag include the National Firefighters Memorial and the United States Presidential Inauguration.
