US Foods, Sentry Centers and Nourishing NYC Join Together to Give Thousands of New Yorkers a Healthy Thanksgiving

ROSEMONT, IL--(Marketwire - Nov 18, 2011) - US Foods-Metro New York, Sentry Centers and Nourishing NYC have joined together to help provide a healthy and delicious Thanksgiving to more than 1,000 families in New York City, beginning with a hands-on cooking lesson for children on Saturday, November 19.

Fifty low-income children and their families will visit Sentry Centers in midtown Manhattan for hands-on training on how to prepare a healthy Thanksgiving dinner. The children will rotate to different cooking stations to learn how to make traditional Thanksgiving fare, such as turkey, sweet potatoes and green beans. Each child will go home with all the food they need -- including a turkey -- free of charge so they can cook Thanksgiving dinner for their family.

"Providing children with the food and skills needed to prepare Thanksgiving dinner does more than just ensure the family gets a hot meal, it empowers children and gives them confidence to try new things in life," said Chuck Gannon, Metro New York division president, US Foods. "We are honored to be able to help more than 1,000 New York families have a great, healthy Thanksgiving this year."

US Foods, Sentry Centers and Nourishing NYC will continue their efforts November 21 to 23, when the Nourishing NYC V.A.N. (Vehicle Advocating Nutrition) will make stops in Harlem and the Bronx to deliver 1,000 turkeys from US Foods to families in need.
