US Patent No. 7,603,360 Issued to Jumptap

Third Patent Issue Signals Jumptap's Growing Intellectual Property Portfolio and Significant Role Driving Mobile Advertising Innovation

CAMBRIDGE, MA--(Marketwire - October 13, 2009) - Jumptap, the leading targeting and mobile advertising solutions provider, today announced that it was awarded Patent No. 7,603,360 by the United States Patent Office on October 13, 2009.

The patent relates to a computer-implemented method for presenting user characteristic and location influenced search results via a display of a mobile communication facility. The method comprises the steps of:

receiving a search request from a user of the mobile communication facility, wherein the search request is received over a cellular telephony infrastructure provided by a carrier, wherein the user is paying for use of the mobile communication facility with the carrier, wherein the search request includes a keyword query entered by the user and:

an implicit query, wherein the implicit query requires no input by the user and comprises:

(a) a time of day; and

(b) a location of the mobile communication facility determined automatically; and an explicit query, wherein the explicit query is initiated by the user and comprises:

(a) a textual input or a voice input of the user; and

(b) a location entered by the user that is other than the location of the mobile communication facility;

receiving from the carrier information relating to a plurality of user characteristics derived by the carrier, wherein the plurality of user characteristics are at least:

(a) two or more demographics associated with the user, wherein the demographics are obtained from the billing system of the carrier; and

(b) usage patterns of the mobile communication facility including past mobile communication facility transactions comprising click-throughs; and

transmitting search results for presentation on the display of the mobile communication facility relating to the keyword query in a list that is prioritized according to relevancy, wherein the relevancy is at least part based on the information relating to the plurality of user characteristics and the implicit query or the explicit query.
