US Senator Dianne Feinstein to Announce Legislative Agenda to Combat Global Warming

LOS ANGELES, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- October 10, 2006 -- Senator Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., will speak with Town Hall Los Angeles on October 25, 2006, at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel. Her address, "Global Warming: A Time to Act," details initiatives to combat the effects of global warming while keeping the US economy strong.

In a letter written to President Bush on September 8, 2006, Feinstein and other US senators wrote, "During the last six years, your Administration and the Republican leadership in Congress have unsuccessfully and irresponsibly sought to downplay the tremendously serious matter of global climate change..."

Feinstein was elected to the US Senate in 1992. She currently serves on the Judiciary Committee, where she is the ranking member of the Terrorism, Technology, and Homeland Security Subcommittee, as well as the Appropriations Committee, where she is the ranking member of the Military Construction Subcommittee; the Energy and Natural Resources Committee; the Select Committee on Intelligence; and the Rules and Administration Committee.

Feinstein's support for environmental policy includes the California Desert Protection Act, Lake Tahoe Restoration Act, Headwaters Forest Agreement, and the San Francisco Bay Wetlands Restoration Program. In a separate letter written on September 7, 2006, to California Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata and Assembly Speaker Fabian Núñez, Feinstein stated, "I remain concerned that our coast remains under threat from new drilling... Exxon Mobil and Sunset Exploration have applied for a lease to slant drill from Vandenberg Air Force Base and also pull oil and gas from Tranquillon Ridge."

Feinstein returns to Town Hall for her sixth time. In her previous appearance on July 17, 2006, Feinstein delivered the address, "Iraq: A Failure of Intelligence." Since 1937, Town Hall Los Angeles has been dedicated to promoting civic participation and awareness. As a nonpartisan and nonprofit forum, we encourage a public discussion on issues of regional, national, and international significance.
