Used Car Website Visitors Bugging Out Over VW Beetle

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Dec. 6, 2011) - UK car advertising website Desperate Seller has reported that despite representing a tiny share of VW's pages, viewing statistics for the VW Beetle have surged to place it as the fourth most viewed car model on site. The latest statistics released have indicated that the VW New Beetle is a highly desirable and sought-after used car, many decades after the original Beetle was launched into the automotive market.

Visitors to leading UK used car advertising website Desperate Seller have racked up the hits to Volkswagen Beetle pages, despite the iconic car only accounting for a tiny fraction of the website's vehicles. Of the 10,000 used Volkswagen models currently available for sale via the website, only around 330 of those are Beetles. Yet statistics have revealed that during October, the VW Beetle was one of the most viewed car models of all those listed on the website. Visitor views placed the ubiquitous BMW 3, Nissan Micra and Vauxhall Astra models in the top three spots, with the Beetle sauntering into fourth- indicating that this 'Bug' is still as popular as ever.

The Volkswagen Beetle 'Type 1' has a long and colourful history within the motoring world, with manufacturing of the famous model achieving a major boost after World War Two. The VW Beetle captured a truly worldwide audience from the 1950s onwards, thanks to its high build quality, comfort and some truly innovative advertising. From the heady days of the sixties the VW Beetle - or the 'Bug' as it is also affectionately known - also achieved success outside of the car sales room and on the silver screen thanks to the various adventures of Herbie the Love Bug, and continued to prove popular with the motoring public for at least a further two decades from this time.

The original Beetle underwent a number of refinements and upgrades until the late 1970s, with a number of special and 'final editions' released in the 1990s. But by the late 1990s, the Beetle design was subject to a major overhaul, culminating in the release of the Volkswagen New Beetle in the latter part of the decade. Now available as a two-door hatchback or two-door convertible model, the New Beetle features a front engine with luggage storage in the back, reversing the configuration from the original Beetle. Although production of the current assigned New Beetle models will cease in 2011, this proverbial Bug will not be quashed, as a redesigned model is set to take its place in the new year in the UK.

Now, almost two decades after the Final Editions of the classic Beetle Type 1 design were rolled out, and with the omnipresence of the New Beetle still clearly in evidence, both classic and new Beetle design continue to garner an incredible amount of interest in the used car market. For Beetle enthusiasts, and those looking for a reliable, comfortable and affordable yet stylish used car, Desperate Seller's website provides offers a multitude of used VW Beetles for sale across the UK.
