Using Viztek PACS and RIS, the Radiology Group Increases Annual Exam Volume Four Fold

Atlanta-Based Company Sees Surging Efficiency and Productivity With Viztek Solutions

RALEIGH, NC--(Marketwired - Aug 22, 2013) - - Viztek, the leading provider of complete digital software and hardware diagnostic imaging solutions, announces today that The Radiology Group (TRG), Atlanta, has recently surpassed the milestone of reading for 100 customers, and with that now has exam volume of more than 750,000 a year, a four-fold increase since implementing the Viztek Opal-RAD PACS. Additionally TRG has expanded its model with the acquisition of two imaging centers, where the Viztek Opal-RIS is used to streamline scheduling and practice efficiency.

A leader in remote and on-site radiology services, TRG implemented the OPAL-RAD PACS after making the business decision to significantly increase their customer base and exam volume. Following side-by-side PACS evaluations, Viztek was selected for its advanced, higher quality PACS infrastructure and ability to provide the customizations that TRG was seeking to speed exam reading and study turnaround.

"To best support our clients and their patients, we need an advanced PACS that not only provides a fast infrastructure, but also the tools that flag critical and priority studies, and the Viztek Opal-PACS has succeeded on all fronts and contributes to fueling our growth," said Anand Lalaji, MD, founder and chief medical officer of The Radiology Group. "With Viztek's continued support, we plan to be on target to meet our goal of moving well beyond our current 100 facilities that we read for across the country, and increase our volume to more than one million studies by the end of 2014."

With increased efficiency being critical to fulfilling TRG's long-term goals, the company chose to partner with Viztek based on their solution's speed, mammography package, and hardware and software capabilities, such as proprietary coding that moves images in a manner to prevent bottlenecking of time-sensitive exams. Through the Opal-RAD PACS software, exams requiring a level of urgency, such as head traumas, are prioritized in getting to physicians for timely reading. Additionally, the customizations provided to TRG included:

  • Services provided by team specialists, who interface with clients choosing to receive data via HL-7 or DICOM transmission
  • Customized functionalities for reading exams based on customer need -- utilizing timers, color codes, custom templates, customer reporting and subspecialty reading -- to enable a level of efficiency that allows TRG to meet the contractual turn-around times required by clients
  • A new Opal Forwarder functionality to enable receiving images from clients at a high speed, thanks to the solution's secure and quick compression

In addition to the significant growth of exam volume and revenue from the PACS, TRG has also relied on Viztek in their expansion into imaging center business, with two recently purchased women's imaging centers utilizing the seamlessly integrated Viztek OPAL-RIS to ease the processes of billing, scheduling, reporting and follow-up letters. After evaluating other RIS vendors, TRG chose to expand their relationship with Viztek due to the company's customizability being important to growth in the mammography environment.

"Beyond solutions and services, Viztek aims to provide a relationship that has everyone's best interests in the long run. For organizations with plans to grow, we go further than delivering the best systems and solutions available at the moment -- by delivering evolving systems and solutions to fit the changing needs of the future," said Steve Deaton, vice president, Viztek. "The Radiology Group is showing no signs of slowing its growth, and we're excited to meet the needs elicited by it through a mutually rewarding and beneficial relationship."
