USO Expands Military Transition Services and Fully Integrates RP/6 Programmatic Resources Into USO's Global Operations

USO will support more transitioning service members around the world than ever before

ARLINGTON, VA--(Marketwired - November 16, 2016) - The United Service Organizations, Inc. (USO), one of the nation's leading military support nonprofit organizations, announced today that RP/6, a Lakewood, Washington-based nonprofit organization specializing in military transition, will become part of the USO organization, effective January 1, 2017. Incorporating RP/6's innovative approach and experienced team into the USO's enduring, global infrastructure will enable the USO to expand its transition program and deliver enhanced services to U.S. service members and their families transitioning from active duty to civilian life through career change assistance, community reintegration, and family strengthening programs.

Founded in 2014 by two post-9/11 veterans, RP/6 develops relationships with public and private service providers to connect transitioning service members and their families with local organizations and individuals that understand reintegration challenges and have the resources to support them as they re-enter civilian life. This year, as the USO celebrates its 75th year of keeping service members connected to family, home and country, it has placed a renewed focus on reconnecting military members with their communities once their service to the nation is complete.

Since 2015, the USO and RP/6 have worked closely to broaden their programmatic outreach and service delivery, collaborating to address the challenges facing American service members and their families and to provide them with comprehensive support on their path forward as they transition out of military service.

Building on the community integration model developed by RP/6, and with the help of RP/6 transition specialists, the USO will continue to offer best-in-class transition services to the hundreds of thousands of men and women in uniform who leave the military each year. Since partnering with RP/6 in 2015, the USO has embedded RP/6 transition services in 10 USO centers, with four additional centers scheduled to be opened by the end of 2016 and six new centers planned for 2017.

The operational change will take effect on January 1, 2017.
