SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwire - Apr 17, 2012) - USO Puget Sound Area (USOPSA) today announced a $30,000 annual donation from The Boeing Company that will help USOPSA lift the spirits of military personnel and their families throughout the Pacific Northwest. Boeing is a longtime supporter of USO and our nation's military service members.

"Boeing continues to demonstrate their ongoing commitment to USOPSA and our local military families, and we thank them for their generosity and support," said Don Leingang, USOPSA Executive Director and CDR, USN (Ret.)

Boeing's annual contribution includes a $15,000 sponsorship of USOPSA's 'Red, White & Blue Golf Classic' on May 22 at The Golf Club at Newcastle, and a $15,000 sponsorship of USOPSA's Five-Star Gala on September 22 at The Westin in Bellevue.

The funds will help the USO continue to provide free morale, welfare and recreation services to more than 537,000 active-duty military, dependents, reservists and veterans annually. The USO operates centers at Sea-Tac Airport and Joint Base Lewis-McChord, and serves the military throughout the Pacific Northwest via the USO's Mobile Canteen.

"The men and women of Boeing bring the same shared passion and care to supporting those who serve as they do to providing the products and systems that make our forces safer and stronger," said Pamela Valdez, Boeing Defense, Space and Security, KC-46 Support & Training Director and USOPSA Board Member. "We are honored to stand with the USO in recognition of the dedication, service and sacrifice of our military heroes and their families."

USOPSA expects this year's Golf Classic to be the largest and most successful in the organization's 46-year history, with more than 300 golfers on two courses, including 100 active-duty military and wounded warriors. Six all-military teams will compete for top honors and the USOPSA Military Cup.

Prior to the tournament, golfers and attendees will enjoy an opening ceremony and luncheon featuring: a Korean War-era M*A*S*H* unit, the presentation of the colors, a performance of the National Anthem, an aircraft flyover, an 18-gun salute, a marching band, and a putting contest featuring a one-shot-each shootout between legendary UW and WSU quarterbacks Brock Huard and Jack Thompson. The Brock and Salk Show on 710 ESPN Seattle will also broadcast live from Newcastle from 9 a.m. to Noon on May 22.

Individual and corporate sponsors can select their level of support on the USOPSA event website at All proceeds will benefit the USO and provide free programs and services for local military.
