VAC: Canadians Attending Government of Canada Events
in the Netherlands Must Register

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - March 21, 2005) - In early May, 2005,
Canadian veterans will travel to the Netherlands to mark the 60th
Anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands. The Government of
Canada has announced a travel subsidy of up to $1,000 towards travel and
accommodation costs for Canadian veterans. Thousands of Canadians
including returning Canadian veterans and their companions are expected
to participate in ceremonies of remembrance and liberation festivities.

To facilitate access to several key ceremonies and events, all Canadians
planning to attend the following events in the Netherlands are requested
to register, in advance, with Veterans Affairs Canada: The Canadian
Ceremony of Remembrance and Reception hosted by the Minister of Veterans
Affairs at Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery on May 3, The Ceremony of
Remembrance at the Holten Canadian War Cemetery on May 4, The Historic
Sites and Monuments Board of Canada Plaque Unveiling and Reception
hosted by Parks Canada in Apeldoorn on May 6, and the Liberation Parade
in the City of Apeldoorn on May 8.

"The Government of Canada wants to make sure that all veterans and
Canadians who are in the Netherlands at this time are able to attend the
events marking this significant anniversary," said The Honourable Albina
Guarnieri, Minister of Veterans Affairs. "Registration is important
because it will give us an idea of how many people to expect. With that
information, we will be able to make arrangements for on-site facilities
to ensure that veterans have access to the sites."

L. Gen (Ret'd) Charles Belzile, Chair of the 60th Anniversary Advisory
Committee said, "I am pleased to see the Government of Canada making
such efforts to ensure that veterans and Canadians travelling to the
Netherlands this May will be able to access the events."

To register, please call 1-800-443-0394 or log onto the VAC Web site at
www.vac-acc.gc.ca and follow the registration instructions. Funding for
the Netherlands veterans travel subsidy is provided for in the 2005
Federal Budget.
