VAC/Media Advisory: Dedication of the Seventh Book of Remembrance 'In the Service of Canada'

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 8, 2005) - Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, together with Prime Minister Paul Martin and Minister of Veterans Affairs Albina Guarnieri, will dedicate the Seventh Book of Remembrance - In the Service of Canada, as part of Veterans' Week 2005. The 2005 Silver Cross mother, Mrs. Claire Leger, as well as other families of those commemorated in the new Book, will attend the ceremony, which will be directly followed by the annual Remembrance Day ceremony at the National War Memorial.

The Seventh Book of Remembrance records, by name, Canadian Forces service men and women whose death is attributable to military service since 1947, with the exception of those commemorated in the Korean War Book of Remembrance. The ceremony, a signature Year of the Veteran event, will honour the more than 1,300 individuals currently commemorated in the Book. The Book will be permanently housed in the Memorial Chamber of the Peace Tower with the six other Books of Remembrance.
