Van Halen Rocks the Top Events Rankings for January

SOUTH WINDSOR, CT--(Marketwire - Feb 8, 2012) - Van Halen announced the dates for their newest tour in early January and the rock legends are now on top of TicketNews' Top Events rankings for the month, as compiled from January 1-31.

The legendary rock crew and original frontman David Lee Roth performed for press and invited guests at Café Wha? in Greenwich Village on January 5 as a tour warm-up and shortly afterward released their 2012 itinerary, which now features nearly 50 dates across North America. They will venture out on tour beginning on February 18 in Louisville, KY, before wrapping up the tour on June 26 in New Orleans, LA.

Van Halen's tour was joined by Super Bowl XLVI as the highest ranking events to make their rankings debut in January. The Super Bowl, which was played February 5 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, finished the month at No. 3. The game featured the New York Giants and New England Patriots, two of the premier franchises in the NFL, with the Giants coming out on top 21-17.

Another high debut came from Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam, which came in at No. 8 in the rankings. The monster truck show is a favorite among families and will perform more than 100 shows across North America in 2012.

Events to Watch in February:

  • Now that the NFL season is over, the NBA and NHL take sport's center stage. The New York Knicks (No. 9) and Miami Heat (No. 17) were the only two teams to make the Top 20 in January, but that number may grow this coming month.
  • Despite announcing his tour late in the month, the "Wrecking Ball" Tour featuring Bruce Springsteen finished the month at No. 8. The tour doesn't begin until mid-March and fans will be looking for tickets throughout February, which means "The Boss" shouldn't have any trouble finishing high in the rankings next month.
