Van Nuys Airport Accepts Applications for Free Summer Education Program

VAN NUYS, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- March 6, 2006 -- Van Nuys Airport (VNY) is seeking applications for a free summer program designed to educate San Fernando Valley high school students about careers in aviation. A maximum of 20 students (ages 15 to 17) will be selected based on merit to participate in the weeklong motivational program, known as the Aviation Career Education (ACE) Academy.

Scheduled for Aug. 7-11, 2006, the ACE Academy will offer participants the opportunity to tour facilities at both Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and VNY, and interact with employees representing a wide spectrum of aviation-related trade and professional occupations. Students will get a behind-the-scenes look at airport facilities, visit the air traffic control tower and participate in field trips to Boeing Company in Long Beach and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena. The week will conclude with a commencement ceremony at VNY.

Applications will be accepted through May 1, 2006. Priority will be given to students in the San Fernando Valley, although applications from students in other Los Angeles communities also will be accepted.
