Vancouver Film School Celebrates its 20th Anniversary

Up to 1 Million Dollars in Scholarships will be Awarded

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 2, 2006) - In 2007, Vancouver Film School ("VFS") commemorates its twentieth anniversary, and to celebrate, VFS is planning a year of special events. The year-long celebration begins with VFS offering 1 million dollars in scholarships to students with a combination of ambition, talent and need. Starting today, VFS will be awarding scholarships across fourteen different programs to the best, the brightest, and the most passionate aspiring artists applying under this program for the upcoming 2006/2007 start dates.

VFS has become the largest private post-secondary entertainment arts institution in Canada, graduating well over a thousand aspiring artists annually. Today's launch signifies not only the celebration of twenty years educating some of the industry's most gifted artists, but also represents our commitment to the entertainment industry to create excellence in the artists of the future. Scholarships are open to students around the globe who are eager to gain the skills they need to succeed in the highly competitive world of entertainment arts through one intensive year at VFS.

Marty Hasselbach, Managing Director of VFS, adds: "VFS has grown from our early days as a small, passionate school for filmmakers to a school that has international appeal across numerous entertainment career paths. The million dollar campaign signifies the desire of VFS to give back and help those whose dream is to gain entry to the entertainment industry but due to financial constraints or other factors have been unable. VFS provides direct interaction between students and industry leaders, not only from the faculty they learn from but also with notable guest speakers and professional project review panels. We expect the grads of 2007 to raise the bar the highest in our twenty year history."

VFS has a worldwide reputation for preparing young artists in only one year for careers in the entertainment industry. Lucasfilm, Pixar, Dreamworks, Electronic Arts, and many other major companies visit VFS throughout the year to cherry-pick our students. VFS students are exposed to awarding winning faculty and guest speakers, and are also given the unique opportunity to collaborate with and work alongside up and coming industry leaders of the future. Alumni walk away from VFS with results that matter - a portfolio or demo reel and job-ready skills.

Additionally, VFS will be announcing a plan for a series of events to take place throughout 2007, including film and animation festivals, guest speaking events, film and TV industry networking events, hardware/software giveaways, and student competitions.
