Vancouver Moving Company Recently Interviewed in Vancouver Sun

Vancouver Moving Company, Ferguson Movers, Recently Sat Down With Sun Reporter Jenny Lee to Discuss Changes Sweeping the Industry

VANCOUVER, BC--(Marketwired - September 12, 2015) - The people at Ferguson Moving, a Vancouver based moving and storage company, will tell you there's been at least one casualty in the paperless revolution. Most movers aren't getting the same volumes from office jobs. Company VP, Lorne MacInnes, sat down with the Vancouver Sun to discuss how he moved with the times and turned a one-off storage project into a profitable new venture for his company. "The office move is getting smaller and smaller," said MacInnes, who bought 99-year-old Ferguson Moving and Storage in 2001 and expanded it to Richmond, Surrey and Langley by franchising to former employees.

With all the advances in technology, filing cabinets are becoming redundant, and computers are smaller and easier to manage. Without heavy oak desks, metal cabinets, and bulky desktops, it's become possible to move a sizeable office in just a few hours. This has impacted profit margins for many movers. Earlier this year, Williams Moving and Storage, one the BC's biggest moving companies, was forced to closed its doors.

The article goes on to explore how MacInnes and other professionals in this niche have evolved to meet changing needs. While some movers have begun to specialize in technology transportation or junk removal, MacInnes says he found a niche within the construction industry.

When a contractor needed to temporarily store some kitchen cabinets, MacInnes convinced him that installers shouldn't handle the logistics of movement. Since then, Ferguson has assisted construction companies by delivering large kitchen cabinet orders to condos, including high profile projects like the Woodward's Tower, Olympic Village, and the Shangri-La.

MacInnes concluded his portion of the interview with a little bit of practical advice: "Most moving companies really need to start focusing on newer markets rather than the traditional office."
