Vancouver Out to Prove "We Are All From Slave Lake"

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - May 31, 2011) - On May 15 approximately 7,000 residents of Slave Lake, Alberta were evacuated as a wildfire ravaged the town. Forty per cent of the town has been destroyed, residents have been displaced, homes and businesses have been lost and this little Northern Alberta gem has a long road of rebuilding ahead.

To help with the rebuilding process, a few former Slave Lake residents have banded together to organize a fundraising event in support of the Canadian Red Cross.

"It was surreal watching our hometown on fire," said Raina Willier, co-organizer of the event. "We saw this as an opportunity to do something for the town we grew-up in and remind residents that they're not alone."

The event will take place on June 2, 2011 at the Railway Club in Vancouver. The night will feature music from Animal Nation, Dominique Fricot, Web Sherriff and more. There will also be a silent auction and beer specials courtesy of Stanley Park Brewery.
