Vancouver Startup Gift-A-Green Launches Greeting Card That Grows

Edible Organic Microgreens Offer Lasting Alternative to Standard Greeting Card

VANCOUVER, BC--(Marketwired - May 24, 2016) -  Vancouver startup, Gift-a-Green, today launched its collection of edible greeting cards that grow. With a choice of five varieties of organic microgreen seeds and corresponding themes, Gift-a-Green offers an interactive alternative to a traditional greeting card.

"The idea to launch a gifting marketplace surfaced while we were developing tactup.com, an online address book. Creating an option for users to send each other gifts tied into our overall mandate to make it easier for people to stay connected," said Bryan Kinney, co-founder of Gift-a-Green. "Traditional greeting cards are wonderful, but the excitement ends as soon as the envelope is opened whereas with Gift-a-Green, this is when the excitement begins."

The seeds are provided by Urban Cultivators, a Vancouver-based supplier of organic vegetables, herbs, and microgreens. Gift-a-Green offers five different varieties of seeds including: mustard, arugula, sunflower, kale and radish. As soon as 10 days after the Gift-a-Green pouch is opened and the seeds are watered, edible microgreens will begin to sprout. Gift-a-Green will eventually be integrated into the tactup platform; as of right now, customers can purchase the pouches from retailers such as Indigo and Garden Works as well as several boutique gift stores, yoga studios, cafes and other retailers across the lower mainland.

"We love the idea of an eco-conscious gift with an interactive component," said Cam Auge, co-founder of Gift-a-Green. "The microgreens taste amazing and encourage healthy eating which is great for kids and adults. People want to let others know they're thinking of them and we believe Gift-a-Green's simple design offers both a unique and healthy option to do just that."

On May 9, Gift-a-Green will launch its Kickstarter campaign which will raise funds to upgrade the online platform allowing customers to easily customize messages on microgreen pouches.

With a target goal of $20,000, the funds raised will also contribute to the integration of Gift-a-Green and tactup. For more information on the Gift-a-Green Kickstarter, please visit here.
