Vancouver Woman Wins Free Natural Gas From Direct Energy

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - May 7, 2008) - Valerie Magee's barbecued steaks are going to taste just a little bit sweeter for the next five summers, because they'll be slow cooking on a gas barbecue fueled by free natural gas, compliments of Direct Energy. Magee won five year's worth of free natural gas, valued at $5,000, after signing up with Direct Energy for a five-year price protection plan.

"When I signed with Direct Energy, I was concerned about natural gas and its volatile price fluctuations," says Magee. "A lot of my home is powered by natural gas, so Direct Energy's guarantee of being able to lock in my rates for five years really appealed to me. But I wound up getting it for free!"

Direct Energy is one of several marketers that began selling competitive energy contracts in B.C. when the market opened to competition on May 1st, 2007. The province-wide contest to win free natural gas was developed to attract the attention of consumers and help build awareness about the energy choices available to them.

"We believe choice and competition drive great service, innovation and long-term investments in infrastructure," says Tanis Kozak, Vice President and General Manager, Direct Energy. "Direct Energy is committed to helping British Columbians leverage their power to choose a natural gas supplier and plan that best meets their needs by engaging customers through contests and sponsorships in the communities where we operate."
