Vancouver's Community New Year's Eve Celebration Wins 'Most Outstanding Event' at National Gala

VANCOUVER, BC --(Marketwired - April 06, 2016) - Vancouver's New Year's Eve Celebration Society and event producers brand.LIVE today announced their win for most outstanding event over $200,000 at the Canadian Special Events Awards Gala in Toronto.

"We are delighted to receive this award," said Dani Pretto, president of Vancouver's New Year's Eve Celebration Society, the not-for-profit community organization that put on the event. "It's a testament to what can be achieved when Vancouver's private and public sectors come together to support a shared vision for a free, all-ages community event."

The 2015 celebration attracted an estimated 80,000 people, making it the largest public New Year's Eve event in Canada last year according to reported attendance from events in other cities across the country. The six-hour event featured live music along with street animation and an early fireworks show at 9 pm for families with younger children, plus a waterfront display at midnight to cap off a spectacular evening.

"This event would never have happened without the support of our founding partners at Vancity Buzz, the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association, Port Metro Vancouver, the Vancouver Convention Centre, Starbucks, Tourism Vancouver, Boughton Law, BDO, Vanterre Projects and PCI Group and support from our partners and volunteers," said Pretto. "The wider corporate community also stepped up to show tremendous support with Concord Pacific coming onboard as the presenting sponsor, along with additional support from CF Pacific Centre Herschel, Westpark, Block 81 Holdings, Tom Lee Music and the Terminal City Club. We want to thank all of them for their tireless efforts and also to acknowledge the incredible support we received from the City of Vancouver in helping establish this new annual tradition."

Planning is already underway for the 2016 event, which will build on the success of 2015, and is expected to draw even more people into the downtown area to celebrate the incoming year and the start of Canada's 150th Anniversary.
