Vanidades Celebrates Its 50th Anniversary

The First and Most Read* Spanish-Language Women's Lifestyle Magazine in the United States and Latin America Turns 50

MIAMI, FL--(Marketwire - March 24, 2010) -  Vanidades, the passion driving Hispanic women, is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2010. Launched in 1961 and published by Televisa Publishing + Digital, Vanidades became the first Spanish-language women's lifestyle magazine in the United States. Paving the way for other Spanish-language publications, in creating newsstand distribution as well as breaking the traditional stereotypes of the level of sophistication amongst Hispanic women through relevant biweekly editorial content, Vanidades today has transformed itself as the most read* Spanish-language women's magazine in the US Hispanic market and Latin America.

Vanidades has garnered legendary status amongst women across the Spanish speaking Americas. It has accompanied the Hispanic woman in her journey of her ever changing role through the decades, and has been passed down from generation to generation, growing and evolving alongside its readers.

A pioneer in the market, Vanidades has accomplished many noteworthy achievements. It became the first Spanish-language magazine to interview the top Latin designers such as Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta, and Narciso Rodriguez in the US; the first to cover international fashion shows directly from the runways of Milan, Paris, and New York; and the first to promote the significant achievements of Latin women by creating the "Han Triunfado" section. By incorporating the pink ribbon on its cover, Vanidades also became the first Spanish-language magazine to draw attention to breast cancer awareness.

"Vanidades has had a significant impact on Hispanic and Latin American women's lives. Women of all ages read the magazine because that's a name they have been familiar with throughout their lives," said Madelin Bosakewich, US and International Sales Director of Televisa Publishing + Digital. "We are extremely proud we have been on this journey alongside them for 50 years. I don't think any magazine in the market has accomplished what Vanidades has."

A celebration for both readers and advertisers alike, Vanidades will be creating a 250 page, collectable special issue focusing on Vanidades' most covered categories over the last 5 decades: supermodels, gastronomy, fashion, beauty, travel destinations, fragrances, music, and Hollywood celebrities.

Apart from the Vanidades 50th Anniversary Special Issue, Vanidades will host an exclusive gala event in New York featuring celebrities, socialites, and VIPs. During the 50th anniversary celebration, it will honor the best of each decade in the 8 featured categories, as well as unveil the best cover of each decade with confirmed special guests such as Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta, and Narciso Rodriguez.

To ensure the success of this celebration, Vanidades is leveraging itself with a multimedia campaign in television and print, backed by strong press coverage. Vanidades' 50th anniversary will extend throughout Latin American cities where Vanidades is published.
