VANOC Salutes Imperial Oil/Esso for Modifying 'Cheer On Canada/Torino, Italy' Promotion

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 28, 2005) - The Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) announced this afternoon that Imperial Oil/Esso has agreed to VANOC's request to modify the "Cheer On Canada/Torino, Italy" promotion. VANOC's requirements have been met and Esso has initiated steps to ensure there is no longer an Olympic association in the promotion.

"After working diligently over the past 24 hours, VANOC and Esso have reached agreement on modifications to the "Cheer On Canada/Torino, Italy" promotion so that it is no longer associated with the 2006 Olympic Winter Games and Canada's Olympic Team," said John Furlong, VANOC Chief Executive Officer.

"I commend Imperial Oil's Chief Executive Officer Tim Hearn and his team for this decision. On behalf of Vancouver 2010 and our many partners, I would like to salute Esso for doing the right thing for all Canadians, for our athletes and for recognizing the investments that have been made in the 2010 Winter Games and Canada's Olympic team."

VANOC is responsible for the planning, organizing, financing and staging of the XXI Olympic Winter Games and the X Paralympic Winter Games in 2010. The 2010 Olympic Winter Games will be staged in Vancouver and Whistler from February 12 to 28, 2010. Whistler will host the Paralympic Winter Games from March 12 to 21, 2010.
