Vanu Closes $8M Angel Investment Round

CAMBRIDGE, MA--(Marketwire - July 9, 2007) - Vanu®, Inc. today announced the closing of an $8 million USD angel investment round. The Angel investors included pre-existing stockholders, directors of the company and Charles River Ventures.

Vanu, Inc. grew out of research on software radio initiated at MIT, and has now deployed several software radio cellular networks in the United States and Canada. Vanu has achieved many industry milestones, including being awarded the first-ever FCC certification for a software defined radio system. Vanu's Anywave® System offers spectrum owners new ways to generate revenue from their spectrum by deploying a single platform that supports multiple standards simultaneously and is easily upgradeable to new standards in the future via remote software downloads.

The open architecture of Vanu, Inc. systems moves wireless infrastructure from vertically integrated hardware dependant architecture to a horizontally layered industry model with open interfaces, using industry-standard servers instead of proprietary, specialized components. Vanu, Inc. sees open systems as essential for speeding innovation in the wireless industry.

"Vanu's products and technology leverage industry trends towards standardized hardware to draw new entrants into the business of building and deploying wireless networks," said Bruce Sachs, partner at Charles River Ventures. He continued, "CRV looks forward to helping the Vanu team expand its current market for multi-standard rural systems as well as identify and enter new markets."

"We were looking for a new investor with the telecom, wireless and operational experience to help us plan our growth strategy," said Vanu Bose, President and CEO of Vanu, Inc. Bose continued, "We view this funding as a springboard for us to accelerate growth both domestically and internationally. We look forward to working with CRV and future investors to continue to transform the wireless industry from a legacy base of dedicated hardware to flexible software-based systems that enable carriers to increase the return from their spectrum assets."

About Vanu, Inc.

Vanu, Inc. (www.vanu.com) is the developer of the Anywave Base Station, the first U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC)-certified software radio. The Anywave Base Station provides significant advantages over traditional equipment designs including: simultaneous operation of multiple wireless standards on a single platform; the use of general purpose, open standard servers rather than proprietary hardware; remote software downloads to add system capacity and migrate to future standards; decreased backhaul costs; and a full range of additional capital and operating cost savings. These benefits come from implementing the high speed signal processing functions of the base station as a portable software application running on Linux, eliminating the need for specialized signal processing hardware. The company delivers Anywave radio access network solutions, licenses its software, and provides design consulting to service providers, system integrators and wireless OEMs. Vanu was founded in 1998 and is based in Cambridge, MA.
