Varian X-Ray Products Streamlines Engineering Processes for Flat-Panel Imaging Systems with MKS Integrity

WATERLOO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 26, 2011) - MKS Inc. (MKS) (TSX:MKX) the global application lifecycle

management (ALM) technology leader, today announced that Varian Medical Systems, Inc., a leading manufacturer

of medical devices and a premier supplier of X-ray tubes and flat-panel image detectors for X-ray imaging, has

selected MKS Integrity(TM) to streamline Varian's flat-panel engineering processes.

As with all organizations in the medical device industry (http://www.mks.com/solutions/by-industry/medical-devices), Varian is subject to U.S. federal and international regulations. Varian was searching for automated solutions to replace its manual processes and documents and increase management visibility. MKS Integrity (http://www.mks.com/solutions/discipline) is improving Varian's reporting to regulatory agencies, and assisting Varian in its aggressive business growth plan and time to market reduction efforts.

"MKS Integrity allows us to trace the relationship between requirements and other development artifacts in real-

time so we can do impact analysis throughout our development cycle, helping us understand the progress we've

made toward release readiness and compliance requirements (http://www.mks.com/solutions/by-industry/medical-devices/medical-device-compliance). By managing engineering assets and documents with

MKS Integrity, we have been able to generate reports and complete our regulatory submissions in a fraction of

the time it took previously," said Keith Gray, Engineering Manager of Imaging Products at Varian.

Varian experienced a significant reduction in effort, reducing its cycle time, and automating requirements and

test management, while providing risk analysis on a single platform. Varian's real-time traceability report

capability gives management instant visibility into engineering release readiness.

"Our MKS Integrity solution (http://www.mks.com/solutions/by-industry/medical-devices/medical-device-components) may help other medical device companies automate their own risk assessment procedures, enabling development teams to efficiently design potential risks out of the system - speeding development, driving down costs, and reducing risk - all with the goal of getting safe, cutting-edge medical devices out to the consumer sooner," said Andrew Wertkin, CTO at MKS.
