Varnish API Engine 2.0 Breaks 23,000 API Calls per Second Barrier

Varnish Software Overcomes the Industry Performance Issue -- A Blind Spot Holding Back the API Economy

OSLO, NORWAY and LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM and STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN and PARIS, FRANCE and NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Oct 13, 2015) -  Varnish Software, the company behind HTTP engine Varnish Cache, today announced the launch of Varnish API Engine 2.0, which takes performance up 15 percent (from Version 1.0) to a minimum of 23,000 API calls per second for the standard three node server cluster. This version meets the needs of high volume mobile, IoT and CDN web applications. It also features a new easy-to-use graphical user interface, improved access control for future-proofing API Management in the enterprise, and support for SSL/TLS for greater security.

As the API economy grows, one of its increasingly visible shortcomings is performance but companies can no longer afford to ignore this. A survey-driven research report from EMA revealed that the number one challenge for API providers is high traffic volume. Varnish conceived its API Engine six months ago with a clear priority to overcome the performance issue, a blind spot currently holding back the API economy.

New functionality in Version 2.0 is based on feedback from early adopter enterprise customers and includes:

Improved access control -- makes it much easier for enterprises to create user groups and define access roles, allowing them to better monetize access to data and services through their APIs;
Graphical user interface -- is an enterprise-friendly capability that complements the Command Line Interface and makes the Engine more accessible to all types of users;
Support for SSL/TLS proxy -- crucial for enterprise security, this capability is tightly integrated with Varnish Cache Plus and encrypts communication on both the server and client ends.

"With Varnish API Engine 2.0 we continue to place the spotlight on API performance, an industry blind spot that is currently holding back the API economy," explains Per Buer, CTO and Founder of Varnish Software. "As we continue to raise the bar in the number of API calls per second that Varnish API Engine 2.0 is able to handle, Varnish Software is unique in its ability to support the high performance needs of today's most demanding Web applications."

The Varnish API Engine 2.0 is available immediately through Varnish Software. Pricing starts at EUR 43,000/ $47,000 for a three node cluster + admin server.
