Vascular Pathways® Receives FDA 510(k) Clearance for the AccuCath® 2.25" Blood Control Intravascular Catheter

NAPLES, FL--(Marketwired - July 22, 2014) - Vascular Pathways, Inc., a privately held medical device manufacturer with innovative wire-guided technology for peripheral intravascular access, today announced they have received FDA 510(k) clearance for the AccuCath® 2.25" Blood Control Intravascular Catheter. With a 2.25 inch catheter, Blood Control Valve, and Patented AccuTip™ Nitinol Guidewire, the AccuCath® 2.25" BC is designed as a new option for patients with challenged peripheral vasculature.

"Patient demographics are changing," said Bill Bold, President and CEO of Vascular Pathways. "Our new AccuCath® 2.25" BC is designed to address the changing demographics and access vessels previously considered 'hard stick' or too deep for traditional peripheral IV catheter placement. The AccuCath® 2.25" BC provides a cost effective solution to multiple failed PIV insertions and unnecessarily placed PICC lines. This FDA 510(k) clearance allows us to continue to improve vascular access outcomes to patients and payors alike."

The AccuCath® 2.25" Blood Control Intravascular Catheter integrates a coiled tip Nitinol guidewire, blood control valve, and needlestick safety features with a 2.25 inch power injectable catheter for use with or without Ultrasound and Vein Finder devices on hard-stick, bariatric, and patients with challenged peripheral vasculature in both venous and arterial applications. Its design is intended to increase first attempt success, reduce complication rates, extend dwell times, increase patient satisfaction, and lower overall costs to the provider. The AccuCath® 2.25" BC is currently available in the US.

Vascular Pathways will be unveiling the AccuCath® 2.25" BC (Booth 207) at this year's Association for Vascular Access (AVA) Annual Scientific Meeting, September 7-10, 2014 in National Harbor, MD.
