Veloroute des Draveurs to be upgraded between the municipalities of Gracefield and Messines

Government of Canada supports Outaouais community project

MANIWAKI, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Aug. 30, 2016) - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

Key local stakeholders have long been asking for concrete, sustainable measures to improve community and recreational infrastructure. The Government of Canada is proud to invest in projects that, like this one by the Haute-Gatineau regional snowmobiling association Les Ours Blancs Inc., contribute to the strength and vitality of all regions of the country.

Acting on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, William Amos, Member of Parliament for Pontiac, today announced that Association régionale de motoneigistes de la Haute-Gatineau, Les Ours Blancs Inc. has been granted $500,000 in funding to upgrade a section of bicycle path running between the municipalities of Gracefield and Messines.

More specifically, the association will carry out various improvements aimed at making the Véloroute des Draveurs more enjoyable for users. This project will create positive economic spinoffs for the region by making the infrastructure more accessible, which will have a beneficial impact on the tourism industry as a whole.

This non-repayable contribution awarded through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150) will go to helping the association execute the work needed to upgrade the path.
