Ventana Provides La Mascota Metallurgy Update

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Dec. 8, 2009) - Ventana Gold Corp. (TSX:VEN) ("Ventana" or "the Company") is pleased to announce results from the most recent metallurgical test program on the La Mascota zone mineralization at the La Bodega project in Colombia. Recoveries of 86% gold, 93% silver and 83% copper have been achieved using conventional technologies.

The recently completed metallurgical test program included both oxide and sulfide material along approximately the first 700 metres of strike length, and covered the mineralization from near surface penetration through to about 400 metres depth. The bulk sample intervals included about one metre of external dilution using a mining cut-off grade of about 2.7 grams per tonne gold.

There were five composited samples consisting of oxide and sulfide material as detailed in the following table:

ElementOxide CompositeSulfide Composite
high gold/high silver
Sulfide Composite
high gold/low silver
Sulfide Composite
low gold/high silver
Sulfide Composite
low gold/low silver
Gold (g/t)3.3118.509.014.804.27
Silver (g/t)37.80108.020.1043.9011.40
Copper (%)0.270.760.150.350.05

Test results achieved recoveries of 86% of the gold, 93% of the silver and 83% of the copper using the following process:

  • Gravity concentration following the initial grinding
  • Conventional flotation to produce a saleable copper concentrate with high silver credits
  • Pyrite flotation after copper flotation to pre-concentrate the gold and silver in the remaining ore
  • Gold and silver recovery of the pyrite concentrate and copper flotation tailings in a carbon-in-leach circuit.

Ventana President and CEO Steve Orr said: "These initial results are extremely encouraging and confirm that the La Mascota ore can be recovered through conventional and cost-effective processing technology. We were able to achieve sufficient recoveries of the gold, silver and copper such that all three metals will generate project revenue."

Metallurgical testing is ongoing and Ventana is confident that further recovery improvements will be attained as the processing circuit is refined.

Review by Qualified Person, Quality Control and Reports

The results of Ventana's drilling program have been reviewed, verified and compiled by Jon Lehmann, L.P.G., a qualified person as defined by National Instrument 43-101 (NI 43-101). Mr. Lehmann has over 25 years of mineral exploration experience, is a Licensed Professional Geologist in the State of Washington and a member in good standing of the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.

To ensure reliable sample results Ventana has a rigorous QA/QC program in place that monitors the chain-of-custody of samples and includes the insertion of blanks, duplicates, and certified reference standards in each batch of samples. Core is photographed and sawed in half with one half retained in a secured facility for verification purposes. Sample preparation (crushing and pulverizing) is performed at an independent local laboratory established by a joint effort between the regional environmental permitting agency and the German Geological Survey, and at the Colombian preparation laboratory of ACME Analytical Laboratories. Prepared samples are direct-shipped to ACME Analytical Laboratories in Vancouver, B.C., an ISO 9001:2000 certified laboratory, for analysis. Pulp splits of mineralized intervals are re-assayed at an independent referee laboratory, Inspectorate America Corp. in Reno, Nevada.

Independent NI 43-101 technical reports have been prepared by EurGeol Miller O'Prey, P.Geo., for the La Bodega project and the nearby California-Vetas project to provide an updated review of the exploration activities that have occurred on the projects. These reports, dated June 14, 2008, are posted on Ventana's website at
