Venture Services to Benefit BC Tech Entrepreneurs and Managers

BCTIA Launches Centre4Growth Initiative to Grow Management Talent

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Sept. 16, 2010) - To boost the management capacity of BC's technology entrepreneurs and management teams, the BC Technology Industry Association (BCTIA) has launched their new Venture Services initiative entitled Centre4Growth (C4G).

The core of the Centre4Growth initiative is a one-on-one coaching program provided by seasoned CEOs in Residence. By working directly with these experienced technology executives, BC companies will receive free relevant, coaching as well as referrals into other C4G services to assist their companies.

Centre4Growth services are available to all entrepreneurs across the province and regardless of sector. Vancouver will serve as the network hub with CEOs in Residence physically located in Vancouver, Victoria and Kelowna. Most of the services are delivered at no cost and include:

  • Executive education through workshops, as part of the Xcelerate program;
  • International business linkages through participation in trade missions, international conferences and other third-party events in the Business Opportunities program;
  • Access to virtual resources through the Centre4Growth website Knowledge Centre;
  • Affordable access to market research and intelligence through Business Intelligence Services.

"BC is a great source for innovation, and we've always produced great technology here," stated Mike Satterfield, Partner of Vancouver-based venture capital firm Yaletown Venture Partners. "However, we need programs like the Centre4Growth to ensure that we're developing the business expertise required for our companies to maximize their opportunity in the marketplace," Satterfield added.

"As a technology entrepreneur that has struggled to create a successful tech business in BC, I really see the benefit to entrepreneurs and managers that the Centre4Growth will deliver," stated Jeff Booth, President and CEO of online building products wholesaler BuildDirect. "C4G will save managers and entrepreneurs a lot of time, money and heartache by learning from the successes of others in the community," Booth added.

"Our CEOs in Residence and C4G advisors are here to coach entrepreneurs and management teams in every aspect of their business," said Pascal Spothelfer, President and CEO, BC Technology Industry Association. "Whether you need help with business plan evaluation, market assessment, affordable market research or financing advice, they are a group of individuals who 'have been there and done it'."

This initiative is possible due to the generous support of the Government of Canada, the Province of British Columbia, Discovery Foundation and industry partners Custom House, Fasken Martineau, KPMG, and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
