Venues Today Magazine Lists First Annual "Women of Influence" Award

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA--(Marketwire - August 16, 2007) - Venues Today magazine, the leading publication for the venue management industry has released its inaugural "Venues Today Women of Influence" awards, recognizing five women who have made a major impact on stadiums, arenas, concert facilities, performing arts, convention centers and fairgrounds.

Linda Deckard, Publisher and Editor-in-chief of the magazine, announced the selection of the five women chosen for the first annual award. "The 'Women of Influence' this year included a stellar list of women who have had a major impact on their profession and have selflessly mentored others in the industry. This is really an industry-wide recognition of the winners, since our primary readership consists of CEOs, presidents and general managers of venues that host those events, so all the winners were selected by thousands of their peers."

The competition is international and is open to leaders in all aspects of the venues industry. The recipients are nominated and voted on by subscribers to Venues Today.

The five "Women of Influence" were introduced by Deckard as: Carol Wallace, president and CEO, San Diego Convention Center Corp., who has blazed a trail for women in the industry, from local leadership to president of her major trade association to chronic volunteerism; Donna Dowless, chairman, XOXO Media Group, Orlando, who spent decades managing arenas and working with Ticketmaster before starting her own company; Robyn Williams, executive director, Portland (Ore.) Center for the Performing Arts, who is also in line to be president of the International Association of Assembly Managers; Kim Bedier, general manager, Everett (Wash.) Events Center, an arena manager for a private management firm, a teacher and a mentor; and Barbara Hubbard, president, Mother Hubbard Productions, Las Cruces, N.M., who founded the original "Star Search"-type contest for on-stage and behind-the-scenes talent with Bob Hope many years ago and continues to educate "her kids" about the industry.
