Verizon Wireless Activates 12 Additional 3G Network Cell Sites in Northern New Jersey

WARREN, NJ--(Marketwire - February 7, 2011) -

  • Enhanced cell sites keep residents and small businesses connected to email, music & mobile Web
  • Verizon Wireless continues to invest in its 3G network while simultaneously rolling out its industry-leading 4G network for customers
  • Network reliability and performance help drive highest customer loyalty in the industry

Verizon Wireless, provider of the largest and most reliable 3G network, as well as the fastest and most advanced 4G LTE network in America, is making wireless calling, text messaging and surfing the Web easier and faster in New Jersey with the activation of 12 new cell sites. The company today announced they have turned on three new cell sites in both Bergen and Middlesex Counties, two in Somerset County, and additional cell sites in Essex, Morris, Monmouth and Sussex Counties. These activations arrive following the 16 that were announced recently in New York, bringing the total number of new cell sites in the New York Metro Region to 28.

"Our 3G network has set a very high standard and it's what people have come to expect from Verizon Wireless voice and data service," said Pat Devlin, New York Metro region president for Verizon Wireless. "While the build out of our recently-launched 4G network has earned a lot of attention, we are staying committed and will continue to enhance our 3G network. Going forward, our customers will determine for themselves whether 3G or 4G is the best fit for their wireless needs. Whichever they choose, they will find the best and most reliable service with Verizon Wireless."

Verizon Wireless makes aggressive multi-billion dollar network investments each year to stay ahead of the growing demand for the company's voice and data services. The new cell sites in New Jersey not only expand the wireless coverage in the area, but also increase the data capacity which provide customers with better reception, fewer dropped calls and data connections and faster download speeds when using their wireless devices to talk, text, email, view high-quality videos and access VZ Navigator's turn-by-turn directions. In addition, the network enhancements further boost Verizon Wireless' network reliability, particularly during emergencies such as power outages and extreme weather conditions when wireless communications are needed the most.

One hundred Verizon Wireless test men and women drive more than 90 specially-equipped vehicles nearly one million miles each year on the country's most frequently traveled roadways to confirm that voice calls and data connections are successful on the first attempt and stay connected. Their vehicles are equipped with computers that automatically make more than three million voice call attempts and more than 16 million data tests annually on Verizon Wireless' network and the networks of other carriers.

The new cell sites and their coverage areas include:

  • Carteret, NJ, New Brunswick, NJ and Piscataway, NJ (Middlesex County)
  • Edgewater, NJ, Fair Lawn, NJ and Mahwah, NJ (Bergen County)
  • Branchburg, NJ and Bound Brook, NJ (Somerset County)
  • Fairfield, NJ (Essex County)
  • Montville, NJ (Morris County)
  • Montague, NJ (Sussex County)
  • Howell, NJ (Monmouth County)
