Store manager Igor Kamenetsky encourages customers to join Verizon Wireless in its efforts to help survivors of domestic violence by bringing no-longer-used wireless phones to the store for donation to the HopeLine® from Verizon phone recycling program. Through the program, HopeLine from Verizon provides wireless phones and airtime to victims of domestic violence and cash grants to local shelters and non-profit organizations that focus on domestic violence prevention, awareness and advocacy. The no-longer-used wireless phones, batteries and accessories that are collected are refurbished or recycled in an environmentally sound way. Refurbished phones, complete with 3,000 minutes of wireless service, are donated to local domestic violence organizations or local government and law enforcement agencies for use with their domestic violence clients. Verizon Wireless was the first wireless carrier in the nation to collect and recycle old cell phones, and has done so on behalf of survivors of domestic violence since January 1999 -- first in New York and then across the U.S.
