Vermont's Urban and Rural Transit Agencies to Use RouteMatch Software's Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Platform


MONTPELIER, VT and ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwired - Sep 9, 2015) - The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans), in partnership with Vermont Public Transit Association (VPTA) and RouteMatch Software, today announced that nine public transit agencies covering the entirety of the State of Vermont will use RouteMatch Software to streamline demand response operations through its Cloud-based ITS platform. RouteMatch is also equipping a total of more than 170 buses with tablets for automated vehicle location (AVL) and driver to dispatch communications. The platform will provide automated scheduling, routing and dispatching as well as serve as a springboard for incorporating other rider engagement technologies. Implementation is well underway.

Vermont's public transit providers serve a diverse ridership representing a significant senior population, seasonal riders, and millennial riders. Vermont is also well connected to the national intercity bus network with frequent inter-city trips to Boston, Massachusetts and Albany, New York.

For many years, Vermont's public transit agencies have relied on a custom software for rider intake and management system for demand response services. The system has served the state well; however, as agencies experienced an increase in trip volume and ridership demand, VTrans, VPTA, and transit providers sought technology that would provide enhanced sustainability, functionality and flexibility for the future.

Future plans include introducing enhanced rider engagement technologies such as the RouteMatch Notification module for sending out night before reminder calls to riders and online trip management capabilities through a web portal.
