Veteran Continues to Follow His Passion of Serving Through Monterey Place

GENEVA, IL--(Marketwire - December 21, 2010) - Tony Andrews has come a long way since serving as a Lieutenant managing meal service on an aircraft carrier. That experience launched a dream that, 20 years later, led to opening his own restaurant last month -- Monterey Place in Geneva.

Many local patrons have already deemed Monterey Place their new favorite pizza place. Primarily an Italian pizza restaurant, Monterey Place's offerings include gourmet pizzas with specialty toppings as well as American cuisine. "The honey thin crust pizza is by far the most popular," states Andrews, "especially with the gourmet toppings." Customers rave about the thin, crispy crust, and the sauce that's thick and tomatoey with a hint of spice.

What's their secret? Fresh ingredients. "Nothing comes from a bag or a can," says Andrews. "We buy and prepare everything fresh daily and cook it just for you." Even their cheeses are shredded on site for the freshest taste. Monterey Place also offers gluten-free pizzas made with Pizza Beer Crust Mix by local business.

Andrews first looked into opening a restaurant in 1990, but chose the security of a sales and marketing career instead. After losing his job due to economic cutbacks, Andrews decided to follow his passion. He discovered that Sanfratello's pizzeria in downtown Geneva was for sale, and his dream began to come to life.

Then Andrews found Chef Richard Mancini. "His recipes taste fantastic and he's one of the main reasons that Monterey Place is successful," says Andrews. Mancini's background includes owning his own restaurant and a position as executive chef at the famous Gibson's Steakhouse.

Through Monterey Place, Andrews emphatically supports the local community. Currently on display at Monterey Place are the works of four local artists. The restaurant also features local musicians on weekends. In January, Monterey Place will introduce Patriot Hall, where customers can display pictures of local military personnel -- past and present -- as a tribute to those who serve our country.

Monterey Place's ribbon cutting will be held January 13 at 5:00 p.m., with tastings before and after the ceremony.

Monterey Place offers delivery, take out, catering and a private dining room and is open for lunch and dinner. Visit Monterey Pizza at 7 West State Street in downtown Geneva. Call 630-845-9999 or go to
