The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs, held a roundtable meeting today with members of Branch 203 of the Royal Canadian Legion. The event was part of his continued efforts to consult widely and frankly with Veterans and their families to ensure the Government is meeting their needs.

"Our Government places the highest priority on ensuring Veterans and their families have the support they need, when they need it," said Minister Blaney. "When I meet with Veterans' groups such as the Royal Canadian Legion, I am able to receive the feedback I need to better serve our nation's heroes."

Minister Blaney has recently announced several service improvements as part of his Cutting Red Tape initiative, which is primarily focused on making the policies and programs at Veterans Affairs Canada less complicated and its services easier to access.

He was in Gaspé yesterday to consult with Royal Canadian Legion members, and he will participate in more roundtable meetings with various Veterans' groups this summer, to consult on the programs and services available to Veterans.

"Royal Canadian Legion Branch 203 (Gaspésia) is very honoured to welcome Minister Blaney for the first time in its history," said Jean-Pierre Johnson, President of Legion Branch 203 in Chandler.

"I have learned a lot over the past two days and I am sincerely grateful to everyone who took the time to meet with me to talk about issues that are important to our Veterans," said Minister Blaney. "I look forward to continuing the discussion with even more Veterans this summer."
