Veterans Affairs Minister Steven Blaney Visits Ridgewood Veterans' Wing

SAINT JOHN, NEW BRUNSWICK--(Marketwire - July 5, 2011) - The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs, concluded the first day of his two-day tour of New Brunswick by accompanying Rodney Weston, Member of Parliament for Saint John, on a visit to the Ridgewood Veterans' Wing.

"There is no better way to understand the needs and concerns of our Veterans and their families than to meet them in their own communities and really listen to what they have to say," said Minister Blaney. "I am truly grateful to the residents and staff at Ridgewood for welcoming me so openly and warmly."

During his brief introductory remarks, Minister Blaney explained he had come to Ridgewood as part of a national tour aimed at ensuring the Department of Veterans Affairs is delivering the benefits and programs Veterans need and deserve.

"We are working harder than ever to ensure you, and all those who have served, have access to services and benefits that meet your needs," Minister Blaney said during his address to resident Veterans at Ridgewood. "You are our country's greatest heroes and we owe each of you a tremendous debt."

Minister Blaney wrapped up his visit to Ridgewood with a tour of the facilities before departing for Fredericton, where he will begin his second-day of activities tomorrow with a visit to Canadian Forces Base Gagetown.
