Veterans Affairs Minister Visits Legion Branch in Niagara Falls

NIAGARA FALLS, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 27, 2005) - The Honourable Albina Guarnieri, Minister of Veterans Affairs, today met with local Veterans and members of The Royal Canadian Legion and Veterans associations from the Niagara Falls area to discuss issues of importance to them.

"Throughout the Year of the Veteran, communities like Niagara are reflecting on their proud military roots. We are taking the time to retell the history we do know and search for the history we do not know- in memory of our Canadian Veterans," said Minister Guarnieri. "It is always a distinct honour and pleasure for me to meet with Veterans and to take the opportunity to hear personally the issues that matter most to them."

During her visit, the Minister discussed the New Veterans Charter, a comprehensive "wellness package", designed to provide Canadian Forces Veterans with the best opportunity for successful transition to civilian life - which will benefit not only themselves, but also their families and Canadian society. Prior to the meeting with local Veterans, Minister Guarnieri attended the 3rd annual Wings and Wheels airshow which honoured Veterans with a special Year of the Veteran tribute. Veterans Affairs Canada made a financial contribution of $5,000 to the event.

2005 is the Year of the Veteran: Celebrate. Honour. Thank. Remember. Teach.
