Veterans Affairs Minister Visits Legion Branch in North Bay, Ontario

NORTH BAY, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 6, 2005) - The Honourable Albina Guarnieri, Minister of Veterans Affairs, today met with local Veterans to discuss issues of concern to them.

"Today's meeting is one in a series of roundtables I'm having with Veterans in communities across Canada," said Minister Guarnieri. "As always, it is imperative that Veterans have the opportunity to share their thoughts about my department's programs and services. It is also important to me that I am able to meet, face to face, the men and women who have served our country so proudly. It is my department's job to deliver for those who delivered for Canada. Today, we are asking the Veterans of North Bay how we can deliver better services and ensure they receive all the benefits they deserve."

The Minister took the opportunity to talk about the New Veterans Charter, a comprehensive "wellness package" designed to provide Canadian Forces Veterans with the best opportunity for a successful transition to civilian life - which will benefit not only themselves, but also their families. The Minister also thanked the Veterans in attendance for their involvement in the Year of the Veteran.

"This is a year during which Canadians have given pause for thought, given praise for courage, and given thanks to all of Canada's Veterans," said the Minister. "When I reflect on where we are today, after eight months of unprecedented public attention on, and admiration of, our Veterans, it makes me so very proud of Canada's accomplishments."
