VHA Executive Peggy Naas, MD to Address World Health Care Congress Summit

IRVING, TX--(Marketwire - January 25, 2010) - As the nation struggles to enact health care reform, VHA Inc., a national health care network that serves more than 1,400 not-for-profit hospitals across the nation, today announced that Peggy Naas, MD, MBA, vice president of Physician Strategies, will address the World Health Care Congress 3rd Annual Leadership Summit on Comparative Effectiveness and Evidenced-Based Medicine. Dr. Naas' three-person panel will discuss comparative effectiveness data and its effect on the future of health care delivery and value-based reimbursement. The session will be 8:30 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 26, at the Gaylord National Resort Convention Center in Washington and is titled "From Politics to Implementation: Exploring the Next Steps in the Comparative Debate."

An experienced, board-certified orthopedic surgeon, Naas is a sought-after expert on the clinical benefits and cost advantages of performing evidence-based procedures. Naas is also respected for her broad knowledge and insight into current trends and new models for effective hospital-physician relationships that result in a more cost-efficient and effective health care delivery system that improves quality patient outcomes.

"I am honored to share my views on these highly relevant topics with so many dedicated professionals," said Naas. "Recent legislative dialogue has brought us nearer to a turning point in health payment reform. This discussion will shine a bright light on ways we can validate and deliver clinical best practices to help control costs, increase value and improve quality patient outcomes," she said.

"As the nation struggles to reconcile pending legislation intended to expand health care coverage, lower health care costs and simultaneously deliver quality patient care, we must understand the relationship between the therapeutic benefits, risks and costs of diverse drugs and procedures. Only when we begin to apply scientifically-based evidence to health care delivery will we advance our medical practices," said Naas.
