VHA Executives to Speak at 2009 AHRMM Conference

IRVING, TX--(Marketwire - June 17, 2009) - VHA Inc., a national health care network, announced today that Patricia Tyson, vice president of Clinical Specialty Services of VHA, will speak at the Association for Healthcare Resource & Materials Management (AHRMM) 2009 Annual Conference and Exhibition to be held July 19-22 in Tampa, Fla. Tyson will co-present a session titled "Lessons Learned in Supply Chain Cost Reduction," with Palmer Evans, MD, chief medical officer of Tucson Medical Center.

Over the past 18 months, Tucson Medical Center worked with VHA to save more than $16 million on supply costs, in areas such as pharmacy and medical devices. Tyson and Evans will discuss how Tucson Medical Center made strategic decisions to work closely with community physicians, especially orthopedic surgeons, to identify significant and sustainable cost savings.

The Tucson team also leveraged supply chain analytics tools that VHA provided to help them identify cost-saving opportunities and establish a roadmap to implement cost reductions throughout all departments.

Session participants will be able to analyze the critical lessons learned from Tucson Medical Center's supply chain cost reduction effort, including how to engage executive management, sharing evidence-based data with physicians and collaborating across multiple departments.

To help supply chain professionals remove the mystery from physician preference items, three VHA experts will lead a half-day, pre-conference session from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., on July 19. Dee Donatelli, vice president of Performance Services, Patricia Tyson, vice president of Clinical Specialty Services, and Zee Robertson, senior director of Clinical Specialty Services will co-present a session titled "The Anatomy of Materials Management" to help materials managers learn how implant devices are used.
