VHA Inc. Hires Leader to Enhance Supplier Diversity for Services Contracting

IRVING, TX--(Marketwire - November 29, 2007) - VHA Inc., the national health care alliance, has hired Lamont Robinson as director of business development and supplier diversity.

In this new position, Robinson will be responsible for broadening VHA's efforts with companies owned by women, minorities, veterans and service-disabled veterans in the company's purchased services contract portfolio. VHA's supply chain management business serves community-based hospitals nationwide. Last year, VHA member health care organizations purchased $2.1 billion in services through contracts managed by VHA. Additionally, VHA members purchased $20.8 billion in supplies through Novation, VHA's contracting services company.

"VHA is committed to working with diverse suppliers nationwide," said Scott Downing, group senior vice president of VHA Supply Chain Services. "We know that an increased number of suppliers leads to greater competition, and that a competitive supply base translates into greater efficiencies, savings, and services for our member health care organizations."

Robinson joins VHA from Cardinal Health, where as corporate director of supplier diversity, he led contracting and supplier diversity activities for all 21 of Cardinal Health's businesses, specifically focusing on assisting Cardinal Health's private sector customers, including Group Purchasing Organizations, IDNs and individual hospitals. From 2000 through 2004, he served as senior purchasing agent for Abbott Laboratories and then worked with its spin-off company, Hospira Inc. At both Abbott and Hospira, Robinson was responsible for sourcing and contracting for globally purchased goods and services. At Hospira, he created and managed the company's small business program. Robinson's previous experience includes various positions in contracting and materials management for the Lake County Forest Preserves in Libertyville, Ill.

Robinson received his bachelor of business administration degree in 1994 at Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Ill., and he received his master's in business administration in 2000 from Keller Graduate School of Management in Chicago, Ill. He is an alumnus of Lower Merion High School in Ardmore, Pa., through the A Better Chance program, which takes gifted inner-city students and places them in better performing high schools throughout the United States.
