VHA Inc. Hosts Annual Supplier Summit to Explore Strategies to Accelerate Cost Containment in Health Care

IRVING, TX--(Marketwire - February 7, 2011) - VHA Inc., the national health care network, will host its eleventh annual supplier summit Feb. 9-11. This strategic planning event is designed to help suppliers identify opportunities and explore strategies to accelerate health care cost reductions for hospitals and non-acute care facilities.

This year's summit features an educational forum and interactive roundtable discussions with thought leaders from health care and other industries on today's market pressures and challenges. A significant component of this event is dedicated to conducting joint strategic planning exercises between attendees and the sales teams from VHA and Provista, whose results will ultimately drive financial and operational improvements for the customers they serve.

The summit also includes informative sessions to help suppliers specializing in purchased services, (telecommunications, outsourced food programs, health IT services that relate to electronic medical records and nurse staffing etc.) and explains how suppliers can engage with Provista, a VHA-owned GPO serving both the health care and non health care markets, to leverage the new opportunities available within Provista's education, hospitality, non-acute and corporate markets.

"To be sure that VHA continues to provide the best solutions for its membership, we are working collectively to design innovative ways to address member needs -- that is the impetus for our annual summit," said David Gillan, vice president, Purchased Services at Novation. "Our goal is to generate enduring value and sustainable opportunities that we strongly believe are strategically important for our customers."

Due to the escalating importance of cost reductions as a strategic focus for hospitals and non-acute providers, the summit is expected to attract nearly 300 suppliers for hospitals, the ambulatory, home health, long-term care and physician markets, as well as the education, corporate and hospitality markets.

This year's keynote speakers are:

  • Michael Regier, VHA Inc. general counsel and senior vice president of Legal and Corporate Affairs, will discuss the effects and implications of both recently enacted and impending health care regulatory reform initiatives
  • Mike Ditka, former Chicago Bears head coach, will describe the key characteristics individuals need to achieve their personal and professional goals

In addition, VHA will recognize several suppliers that have been identified as industry leaders for their support of VHA hospitals and non-acute member organizations. These VHA supplier awards highlight achievements in member satisfaction, member growth, the ability to drive contract compliance and overall satisfaction with services offered to hospitals.
