VHA Inc. Promotes David Gillan to Vice President of Purchased Services

Promotion Signals Segment's Growth and Relevance to Hospitals

IRVING, TX--(Marketwire - February 18, 2009) - Realizing the growing volume of purchased services for hospitals nationwide, VHA Inc., the national healthcare alliance, recently promoted David Gillan to vice president of purchased services.

In his new role, Gillan will provide strategic and operational leadership for VHA's contracting initiatives for purchased services, oversee its supplier relationships and assume responsibility for its Purchased Services Analysis product. Working with VHA regional offices, Gillan will lead efforts to create custom contracts that help individual hospitals streamline and consolidate their purchased services activities. This business line is especially critical as hospitals face increased demands amid decreasing payments during this economic downturn.

"It's very likely, especially in large hospitals, that many people can be responsible for purchasing similar services for various business locations. We want to help hospitals obtain not only lower prices for services, but develop a more comprehensive understanding of the services they are buying so we can improve efficiency. That means greater productivity and more value for our members and their patients," said Gillan.

U.S. hospitals currently spend several billion dollars annually on services, equaling the amount hospitals spend on medical supplies. Purchased services include: human resource services, telecommunications, clinical services, patient support services, etc.

Gillan joined VHA as an outsourcing manager in July 1999. Most recently, he was VHA's senior director of research and development. Gillan was also responsible for developing and integrating VHA's Supplier Diversity Program throughout the organization.

Earlier in his career at VHA, he was a senior manager of business and product development. In this role, he expanded VHA's outsourcing, physician, clinical service and technology portfolio and applied market trend analysis to support the organization's strategic planning, growth and expansion.

"I am excited to announce David's promotion," said Amy Anthony, senior vice president of Supply Chain Services. "His hard work and dedication to VHA and to our members helps to ensure that they will continue to derive cost-savings and associated supply-chain benefits as VHA expands the scope of Purchased Services to help members successfully manage their operations. David has worked effectively across a number of our most critical business lines. We trust his vision and leadership to take this team to a new level of service for our members in this critical time."

Gillan earned his undergraduate degree from Texas Tech University and a graduate degree in Health Services Management from the University of Dallas.
