V.i. Labs Acquires Software Usage Analytics Technology to Accelerate Growth

Acquisition of Trackerbird Enables New and Advanced Data-Driven Intelligence for Global Software Industry

WALTHAM, MA--(Marketwired - March 08, 2016) -  V.i. Laboratories, Inc. ("V.i. Labs"), a leading global software intelligence solutions provider, today announced the acquisition of Trackerbird Limited. The acquisition expands V.i. Labs' cloud-based software usage analytics and runtime intelligence capabilities giving software vendors and creators of enterprise applications new and advanced visibility into product usage to increase license compliance revenue, build better products, and drive end-user adoption.

Trackerbird Software Analytics™ provides valuable insight into product runtime and customer usage patterns giving product management and marketing professionals the intelligence to make data-driven decisions that foster user engagement and accelerate adoption. Historically, product management teams have lacked the tools to make decisions based on the actual use of applications. More than 28 percent of delivered features are not being used by customers according to a recent survey from Pragmatic Marketing. Trackerbird helps companies understand user engagement and conversions after the product is downloaded, gathering intelligence on what platforms and architectures the software is running, which features are used or ignored within a product as well as how usage and churn trends vary by user segment.

"Our customers rely on us to help them convert unlicensed users into paying customers by providing deep analytics into software misuse. With Trackerbird's technology we can now provide a more comprehensive range of software usage analytics across the product lifecycle that optimize product development and deliver significant business ROI. This acquisition allows V.i. Labs to increase the value of software intelligence with existing customers and to enter new, growing markets," said Joseph Noonan, Chief Executive Officer for V.i. Labs. "In the last six years, V.i. Labs has helped customers generate more than $1.4 billion in new license revenue. The company continues to see strong demand from software vendors looking for actionable insights into the use of their products."

"At TechSmith, our goal is to create a superior customer experience in our software products while fully optimizing revenue opportunities. We are using software usage data from both V.i. Labs and Trackerbird to recover revenue from the misuse of our software and improve our trial conversion funnel," said Dewey Hou, VP of Product Development at TechSmith. "We leveraged the expertise of both companies to elevate our strategy and fine-tune our conversion campaigns based on the analysis of the software usage intelligence we were receiving. We look forward to working with one combined company going forward."

Trackerbird technology has been deployed to over 40 million installations in 200 countries. Customers relying on Trackerbird's service to gain better insight into their software applications range from Fortune 500 companies in the B2B software sector, to SMBs and start-ups building high-volume consumer apps across a number of industries.

"A wide range of customers use our software -- from teams of professional screenwriters to aspiring indie filmmakers -- and they all have unique user stories. Software usage analytics from both V.i. Labs and Trackerbird give us insight into that diverse end-user engagement that we didn't have before," says Scott McMenamin, President of Final Draft, A Cast & Crew Entertainment Company. "Now we can make better decisions about product development, packaging, and pricing that meet the needs of our customers and make us an even more indispensable part of the filmmaking process."

Like V.i. Labs, Trackerbird has gained leadership in the desktop software analytics market for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS platforms. This acquisition accelerates V.i. Labs' vision to enable software providers to centrally visualize software usage analytics as they expand their software products into multi-platform environments including desktop, mobile, and SaaS applications. Based in Europe, the Trackerbird team will join V.i. Labs bringing its expertise in software data analytics and visualization and will augment support for the company's global customer base.
