Via Rail Trains Blossom With Legion Poppies

Passengers to Be Given Poppies Thanks to Generous Donation

OTTAWA, ON--(Marketwired - November 04, 2014) - Beginning today, and rolling out over the next few days, passengers travelling on Via Rail trains will receive a Poppy all thanks to Via's support of The Royal Canadian Legion. Poppies will be provided to all passengers right up until November 11th.

"Canadians have a strong connection to the train, particularly when it comes to our military past," says Tom Eagles, Dominion President of the Legion. "For Via Rail to step up like this, says a great deal about the care and concern they have for all Veterans and our communities across Canada," adds Eagles.

"This campaign is one more initiative by VIA Rail to express our gratitude to the Canadian Military who defend our country," said the President and CEO of VIA Rail Canada, Yves Desjardins-Siciliano. "Like all Canadians, our thoughts go to military personnel, veterans and their families, especially at this significant time of year. The train and the Military have shared a long history together, including during the World Wars, when the railway was used to transport thousands of soldiers and equipment. VIA Rail is proud to put this new initiative in place this year."

The donation to The Royal Canadian Legion will be used in programs to help Veterans and their families in need, youth education and leadership development initiatives, as well as services to seniors in communities all across Canada.
