Special guest Toronto-based dancer/choreographer Sasha Ivanochko creates a powerful visual accompaniment to Claude Vivier's lively, rhythmic, Indonesian-inspired Pulau Dewata, with arrangement by Michael Oesterle.

- Mozart String Quartet in B flat, KV 589

- Vivier Pulau Dewata, arranged for string quartet by Michael Oesterle

- Brahms String Quartet in C minor, Op. 51 No. 1

The Seiler String Quartet, Mayumi, Midori, Naomi and Yuri Seiler

The Seiler String Quartet was formed while the four sisters were very young. Their parents - German Ernst Seiler and Japanese Mie Seiler, both pianists, met at the Julliard School and were drawn to Salzburg after beginning their daughters' upbringing in Japan. The four sisters, two years apart, began playing their instruments at 3 years old and coincidently ended up with the composition of a string quartet amongst them. Very soon they were each achieving great success at international music competitions, earning prizes and acclaim as both soloists as well as chamber musicians, performing on radio and television - often with their mother at the piano. The unique quartet of four young sisters became a much-loved ensemble. While each has enjoyed a successful career individually over the years, the Seiler String Quartet continues to return to their music making together as much as their busy schedules allow.

Yuri Seiler is principal cellist with the North German Radio Orchestra and resides in Hamburg with husband Jurgen who is a horn player in the same orchestra.

Naomi Seiler is principal viola of the Hamburg Opera and also lives in Hamburg. She also performs, schedule permitting, as principal violist with Via Salzburg Chamber Orchestra.

Midori Seiler is one of the leading baroque violinists in Europe, performing as a soloist and as concertmistress for the highly acclaimed group Akademie fuer Alte Musik Berlin.

Mayumi Seiler has been artistic director and lead violinist of Via Salzburg Chamber Orchestra since its inception in 1999. Dividing her time between performing and teaching in Toronto, Mayumi is also busy as a soloist and chamber musician in Europe, Japan and other parts of North America. Ms. Seiler has performed around the world to critical acclaim.

Sasha Ivanochko is a Toronto-based dancer, teacher and choreographer. An intense and intuitive performer, she has charmed audiences and critics alike with her explosive physicality and dramatic presence.

Via Salzburg gratefully acknowledges the generous support of our 2006/2007 series sponsor, TD Canada Trust Music, and welcomes Acura Canada as a sponsor of this concert.
