ViaWest Deploys Cyan's Integrated Data Center Interconnect Solution to Seamlessly Integrate Its Texas Data Centers

Cyan's High-Availability, Low-Latency Transport Platforms, Advanced Software Support Systems, and Professional Services Provide "Virtual-Adjacency" of Key Data Centers

PETALUMA, CA--(Marketwire - Sep 13, 2011) - Cyan today announced that ViaWest, one of the largest privately held data center service providers in North America, has deployed Cyan's integrated data center interconnect (DCI) solution to provide virtual adjacency of ViaWest's new state of the art Synergy Park data center with its Stemmons Freeway (Dallas) location. Cyan's DCI solution integrates the high-availability, low-latency Z-Series packet-optical transport platforms (P-OTPs) with the industry-leading Cyan 360 software support systems, and Cyan PRO services to enable new data center expansion sites to perform as if they were co-located with other key data centers. This powerful solution allows ViaWest to maintain its industry leading service level agreement (SLA), while giving its customers new opportunities to expand their environments.

"We are committed to delivering our customers a unique combination of colocation, cloud, complex hosting and managed services backed by industry-leading SLAs," said Paul Gerrard, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing for ViaWest. "Cyan's integrated data center interconnect solution allows us to offer and support our services seamlessly and cost-effectively across our data centers in the Dallas market."

ViaWest provides a unique set of colocation, complex hosting, cloud and managed services solutions to over 1,000 mid-sized and enterprise-level businesses nationwide. The company recently opened its 22nd data center facility, Synergy Park, located in Richardson, Texas. With the addition of Synergy Park, ViaWest's data centers combine to offer over 400,000 square feet of raised floor space in Colorado, Texas, Oregon, Utah and Nevada.

A recent Uptime Institute survey revealed that 40 percent of data center owners and operators will build a new facility in 2011-2012. This ongoing expansion to new sites, along with colocation in meet-me rooms, participation in Carrier Ethernet exchanges and the adoption of cloud-based services are all driving a dramatic rise in inter data center traffic. Data center operators are challenged to meet these ever-increasing capacity needs, while keeping network costs and complexity at a minimum.

Cyan provides highly integrated packet-optical transport platforms and innovative multi-layer software systems that enable data center operators to meet these demands with Service Level Aware Networks(SM). Cyan's DCI solution provides significant advantages compared to the traditional approach of using separate routing and optical transport platforms, in terms of space and power efficiency, operational simplicity, latency and performance across multiple network layers. Key elements of Cyan's data center interconnect solution include:

  • The Z-Series Packet-Optical Transport Platform. Cyan's carrier-grade Z-Series family integrates high-density, line-rate GbE and 10GbE Layer 2 switching with connection oriented Ethernet (COE) transport, and optional multi-degree ROADM and DWDM capabilities to provide dramatic increases in low-latency performance and scale.
  • CyPlan Multi-Layer Network Planning Software System. Cyan's CyPlan network planning software is a unique cloud-based service that allows customers to design multi-layer networks as well as model end-to-end latency by taking into account the distances between nodes and the type of processing taking place along planned routes.
  • CyMS Multi-Layer Network Management Software System. Cyan's CyMS multi-layer management system provides revolutionary 3-dimensional visualization to simplify network configuration, monitoring, fault resolution and management, improving performance and reducing operational costs.
  • CyPortal Service Level Management Software System. CyPortal is Cyan's innovative service-level monitoring system that provides proactive monitoring of Ethernet connections via an accessible, easy-to-use web portal that allows data center operators to resolve network issues before they impact customers.
  • Cyan PRO Services. Cyan PRO delivers a comprehensive set of standard and customized service packages that leverage the power of Cyan's advanced software support systems and a world-class service organization to support our customers in operating and transforming their networks.

"Cyan's packet-optical transport and multi-layer software solutions deliver the scalability and operational flexibility that enable leading data center operators like ViaWest to deliver services ranging from collocation to hosting more effectively and economically," said Nick Thomas, Cyan's vice president of data center sales. "In addition to meeting data centers' ever-increasing capacity needs while keeping network costs and complexity at a minimum, our carrier-grade Z-Series platforms and Cyan 360 software (CyPlan, CyMS, CyPortal) provide a crucial differentiator as SLAs for network availability and connectivity become more stringent."
